Form 26AS

The official annual statement showing all TDS deducted on your PAN — the master record for claiming TDS credit when filing ITR.

Definition

Form 26AS is the official annual tax credit statement issued by the Income Tax Department. It lists every TDS deducted on your PAN by every deductor (employer, bank, client, tenant) — plus advance tax paid, self-assessment tax paid, and any refunds.

Access it on the IT e-filing portal (incometax.gov.in) under My Account → View Form 26AS. When filing ITR, you can only claim TDS that appears here — if a deductor failed to deposit the deduction with the IT Department, your refund is at risk despite their certificate showing the deduction.

AIS (Annual Information Statement) is the broader, newer companion document — includes 26AS data plus reported financial transactions (dividends, mutual fund redemptions, etc.).
