What this means

Score 600/720 falls in the band 600-609, mapping to an estimated AIR around 28,000. You are above the qualifying cutoff for GENERAL. This rank is competitive for government MBBS.

* Score-to-rank bands are approximate, based on NEET-UG 2022-2024 distributions.

* Actual rank depends on year-specific normalisation and ties.

* MCC counselling allocates 15% All India + 85% state quota separately — state rank can differ from AIR.

* Category cutoffs are qualifying only; seat allotment is rank-based.

Quick answer

Estimate your NEET-UG All India Rank from your score using the score-to-rank relationship. NEET has ~20-24 lakh candidates; the rank you get determines your medical college options under MCC and state counselling.

What is NEET Rank?

NEET-UG is conducted by NTA for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and veterinary courses across India. The paper is 720 marks (180 questions × 4 marks each, with −1 negative marking). NEET reports a raw score; the All India Rank is derived from where your score falls in the overall score distribution.

Approximately 20-24 lakh candidates appear annually. Total seats: ~1.1 lakh MBBS + 27K BDS + several AYUSH = ~1.5 lakh medical seats overall. Top ~10K rank typically gets government MBBS in top metros; top 50K covers most government seats; rank 50K-2L covers private and AYUSH options.

How NEET rank is derived from score

NEET rank is determined by your raw score against the score distribution of all candidates. Higher score = lower (better) rank. Unlike JEE Main's percentile system, NEET ranks directly from raw scores. Tie-breakers: higher biology score, then chemistry, then fewer wrong answers, then older candidate.

Score-to-rank relationship is approximate and changes year to year based on overall difficulty. A 700+ score has historically meant top 100 rank; 650+ around top 1000; 600+ around top 5000; 550+ around top 15K; 500+ around top 50K. Each year shifts these bands by ±10-20%.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your raw NEET score (out of 720)

    From your NTA NEET scorecard. Total marks = 4 × correct − 1 × incorrect. Maximum 720.

  2. Pick the exam year

Score-to-rank mapping varies by year because of paper difficulty and candidate count. The calculator uses recent years' distribution as the basis.

  3. Read estimated rank band + likely college options

Calculator gives a rank band (e.g., 1500-2500) and notes typical college options at that rank under MCC central counselling.

When to use it

Government MBBS feasibility

Government MBBS seats fill up to about rank 25,000 (general category, across all states). Calculator shows whether your score puts you in this band.

AIIMS / JIPMER tier prediction

AIIMS Delhi typically closes by rank ~50 (general). Other AIIMS by ~500. JIPMER by ~150. Calculator helps you set expectations during choice filling.

State quota vs All India quota

85% of government MBBS seats are state quota; 15% All India. Your home state cutoff is usually 1.5-2× more generous than All India cutoff at the same college.

Common mistakes to avoid

Comparing rank to college cutoff without category context

Cutoffs differ by category. A rank-15000 general candidate has different options than a rank-15000 OBC-NCL or rank-15000 SC. Always check the cutoff specific to your category.

Treating last year's cutoff as binding

College cutoffs shift with overall difficulty. Use 2-3 years of historical data when choice-filling, not just last year.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the NEET rank prediction?
The calculator uses banded score-to-rank data from NEET 2022-2024. Accuracy is ±10-15% — exact rank depends on year-specific paper difficulty and tie-breakers. Use it as a planning tool, not a guarantee.
What rank do I need for MBBS in a government college?
Roughly AIR 1-56,000 for All India 15% quota govt MBBS. State-quota 85% varies — Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra are competitive; many other states allot MBBS up to AIR 100,000+ via state counselling.
What's the NEET qualifying cutoff?
NTA 2024: 162 marks (General/EWS, ≥50 percentile), 144 marks (OBC/SC/ST, ≥40 percentile). Qualifying means you're eligible for counselling — actual seat allocation depends on rank.
Do AIIMS and JIPMER use NEET?
Yes — since 2020, AIIMS and JIPMER admit via NEET-UG. Top ~100 AIR generally clears AIIMS Delhi. Earlier separate AIIMS / JIPMER entrance exams are discontinued.
