Date Difference is the gap between two calendar dates, expressed in years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, or working days. The calculator handles leap years, varying month lengths, and weekend exclusion automatically.
What is Date Difference?
The simplest version of date arithmetic — how many days are between today and your wedding day, between your project start and deadline, between Republic Day and Diwali. Calendars make this trickier than it sounds because months are uneven, leap years exist, and 'working days' usually excludes weekends.
Common situations where this matters: counting notice period days at a job, tracking how long a project has been running, planning trips, calculating interest on simple-interest loans by exact day count, or just satisfying curiosity about a milestone.
The calculator handles three kinds of counts at once. Total days is the simple subtraction. Working days excludes Saturdays and Sundays (but does not auto-exclude public holidays — those vary by country and need manual subtraction). Weeks is total days divided by 7.
How dates are compared
JavaScript stores dates as milliseconds since 1 January 1970. The calculator subtracts the two timestamps, divides by 86,400,000 (the number of milliseconds in a day), and floors the result. Working days are counted by walking each day in the range and excluding Saturdays and Sundays.

How to use this calculator
Pick the two dates and the calculator instantly returns all four counts.
Set the start date
Use the date picker. The earlier of the two dates.
Set the end date
The later date. The calculator handles either order — if you swap them, it gives the same difference (always positive).
Read the breakdown
Total days, weeks (rounded down), working days excluding weekends, plus hours and minutes for fine-grained needs.
Common scenarios
Notice period tracking
30 working days from resignation to last day at office — the calculator excludes weekends automatically.
Project timeline
Days remaining until a deadline, useful for status reports and progress tracking.
Visa/passport validity
How many days are left on a visa or passport before renewal is needed.
Insurance claim windows
Most insurers have 30, 60, or 90-day claim windows. Calculate exactly how many days remain.
Anniversaries and milestones
How many days have passed since you started a relationship, joined a job, started saving, etc.
Common mistakes to avoid
Confusing 'days between' with 'days inclusive'
Between Jan 1 and Jan 5 is 4 days (the gap), not 5 (count of days). The calculator returns the gap.
Forgetting leap years
The calculator handles them automatically. 2024 had 366 days, 2025 has 365, 2028 will have 366.
