A tip calculator splits a restaurant or service bill across diners and adds a chosen tip percentage. Useful for restaurant outings, group cabs, takeaway orders, or any situation where a bill needs to be split fairly with an added gratuity.
What is Tip Calculator?
Tipping is more common in some countries than others. In India, a service charge (when included) usually replaces a tip, but at restaurants where service is good and no charge is added, 5-10% is the conventional tip. In the US it is 15-20%; in many parts of Europe service is included and tipping is a smaller round-up. The calculator does not judge — you pick the percentage.
Splitting a bill among friends gets awkward fast. People order different things, some skip dessert, someone took an extra round of drinks. The simplest approach (split equally including tip) is fastest and the calculator handles it cleanly. For ordered-by-person splits, calculate per-person totals separately and add tip to each.
An overlooked nuance: in India, GST on restaurant bills already includes a service charge if the restaurant has chosen to apply it. Confirm before adding a separate tip — otherwise you may be tipping twice.
Split + tip math
Tip is a percentage of the bill amount. Total is bill + tip. Per-person is total divided by number of people.

- Bill amount—the pre-tip total before tip is added
- Rate
- Tip %—5-20% in most contexts
- People
- Number of diners—to split the total amongst
How to use this calculator
Three sliders: bill, tip percentage, number of people. Result updates instantly.
Enter the bill amount
The total of your meal/service bill before tip. If GST is already included, enter that figure.
Set the tip %
10% is the standard in India for good service. 15-20% in the US. Use the slider to adjust.
Set the number of people
How many people are splitting the bill. The total is divided equally.
Read per-person amount
The headline number is what each person owes. The full bill total and tip amount are also shown.
When to use it
Restaurant outings
Most common use. Split a meal evenly with a built-in tip — done in seconds at the table.
Group cabs
Tip the driver and split between riders. Useful for late-night airport runs split among 3-4 people.
Salon and spa
Tipping for personal services is common. Calculator gives quick reference for 10-15%.
Hotel staff
Bell-hops, housekeeping, room service — small tips add up. Use the calculator to standardize.
Group gifts
Pooling for a colleague's gift; the same logic applies — split a target amount among participants.
Common mistakes to avoid
Calculating tip on tax-inclusive total
Some places include GST in the bill — tipping on the post-GST total slightly overshoots. Tip on the pre-tax subtotal if you want to be precise.
Splitting drinks unequally without adjusting
If one person had three drinks and others had none, splitting equally is unfair. Either skip the calculator or compute drinks separately.
