Quick answer

Attendance percentage is the fraction of classes you have actually attended out of the total held. Indian colleges typically require 75% to be eligible for exams. The calculator also tells you how many of the remaining classes you must attend to stay above the threshold.

What is Attendance?

Most Indian colleges and schools enforce a minimum attendance rule. The standard is 75% — anything below means you may be barred from end-semester exams or face other penalties. Some institutions are stricter (80% in IITs, 90% in some medical colleges) and some give grace with valid reasons.

The calculator does two things. First, it computes your current attendance percentage. Second, given the classes left in the semester, it tells you how many of those you must still attend, and how many you can safely skip without falling below the threshold.

Attendance is calculated cumulatively over the semester. A bad streak in week 4 can be recovered if you attend everything from week 5 onward. The calculator helps you plan exactly how aggressive that recovery needs to be.

Attendance math

Formula
Current % = Attended ÷ Held × 100 Must attend = ⌈(Held + Remaining) × 0.75 − Attended⌉ Can skip = Remaining − Must attend
Attended
Classes attended so faryour current attendance count
Held
Classes held so fartotal classes the institute has conducted
Remaining
Classes leftscheduled but not yet held
Worked example
Attended60
Held80
Required %75
Remaining20
Current = 60/80 = 75%
Total at end = 100
Required at end = 75
Must still attend = 75 − 60 = 15
Can skip = 20 − 15 = 5
75% currently • Must attend 15 of 20 remaining • Can skip 5

How to use this calculator

Four inputs: attended, total held, required %, and remaining classes.

  1. Enter classes attended

How many you have actually been present for.

  2. Enter total held

How many your college has conducted (counted from the attendance record).

  3. Set required %

Default 75. IITs use 80 in some courses; medical colleges may require 90.

  4. Enter remaining classes

Estimated number scheduled before the semester ends.

Mid-semester check

Are you on track for 75%? If not, plan recovery before it is mathematically too late.

Planning a vacation

Want to skip a week before Diwali? See exactly how many classes that costs you and whether you can afford it.

Returning after illness
